Waltham Abbey

A shepherd's hut in Overton, Hampshire

Built by hand, at the bottom of our garden.

Waltham Abbey took late nights, plenty of cups of tea and a lot of love to make. Now it's a quiet little hideaway for two, a short stroll from one of Hampshire's prettiest village high streets.

Our story

A family who can't leave a space alone.

We're Danielle and Matt, a family of five, plus Joey our lively cocker spaniel and four chickens. We married in 2018 at a chateau in France, and we've been making things together ever since: doing up our home, converting camper vans, and eventually building a shepherd's hut in the back garden.

Matt is our resident builder and renovator, and he made Waltham Abbey by hand. Every board went up in the evenings and at weekends, fuelled by tea and a shared love of turning a plain space into somewhere you want to be.

Opening it to guests lets us share a bit of that. We hope it feels like a proper little escape, with us close by if you need anything.

Around Overton

Cows in the fields, a bakery up the road.

Overton is a friendly, green village surrounded by farmland. From the garden you'll often hear nothing but birds, and it's normal to spot cows grazing in the fields nearby.

A short walk takes you to the high street, with cosy pubs, independent cafés and a brilliant local bakery. Further out there's the River Test, plenty of footpaths across rolling countryside, and the Bombay Sapphire Distillery almost on the doorstep.
